Line-up Berlin Festival 2012

The Berlin Festival line-up continues to grow to epic proportions with new additions Of Monsters And Men, Grimes, Clock Opera, iamamiwhoami, Djang Django and Dada Life. These trailblazing acts will take to the stage at Berlin’s historic Tempelhof Airport on September 7th and 8th 2012, joining an already impressive bill that includes Sigur Rós, Franz Ferdinand, Orbital, Little Dragon, Friendly Fires, The Killers, Metronomy, SBTRKT and Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs.

Not a day goes by without Canadian artist Claire Boucher aka Grimes being highlighted as ‘one to watch’ and with the recent release of her third album Visions receiving critical acclaim across the globe, 2012 is definitely shaping up to be her year. We’re excited to see what she has in store for the Tempelhof crowd! Also making their Berlin Festival debut this year is Iceland six-piece Of Monsters And Men. Unlike many other European bands, Of Monsters & Men made it big in the US first, before European success came their way. But it wasn’t long before the word spread across the pond fuelled by the release of their hit single and video ‘Little Talks’ and debut album, My Head Is An Animal. There’s no doubt the band is a must-see this summer. Continuing the Nordic flavour is a Swedish act which have taken Europe by storm of late. Electro House duo Dada Life will also leave their native Sweden to get behind the DJ booth at Club Xberg. Known for their high energy and giant inflatables, these two certainly know how to get the party started and are guaranteed to keep the crowd dancing well into the early hours.

Now, what happens when four art students get together to mix up electro and krautrock? Projects like Django Django, that’s what. The band’s album has been praised by NME as a ‘heady explosion of colours’ and they will be spreading a ray of colourful light on the Berlin Festival Crowd on Saturday 8th September. And last but by no means least, another band known for their unique sound and love of digital collage’ slicing and dicing sounds and lyrics – British act Clock Opera performing songs from their debut album, Ways To Forget.

This years edition will also play host to the world’s biggest Silent Arena Aftershow Party. With 10,000+ headphones, ticket holders will be able continue partying after the final main stage performance from midnight till 4am. The Art Village will also make a welcome return to Tempelhof Airport this year, boasting over 60 national and international artists. Urban art, murals, performances, sculptures and more will all be on show plus an art bazaar, bars, booths, and the Design & Record Label Market as well as the art prize and a costume competition will complete the Art Village.

Electric Zoo: New York’s Electronic Music Festival is proud to announce the addition of special guest Rusko to the Hilltop Arena on Saturday, September 1, 2012. The dubstep innovator returns to Electric Zoo after his smash performance last year, joining the world’s top electronic music talent over three days on Randall’s Island Park, New York City, on August 31, September 1 and September 2, 2012.

U.K.’s Rusko is known for coining his own take on the dubstep genre, veering away from the dark, serious side of the sound and bringing a highly energetic and fun approach. His sound has appealed to many people outside of the dubstep world, as his productions have become more adventurous in formula, sound, and energy. Part of the Mad Decent camp, he’s worked with the likes of M.I.A. and Britney Spears, and has remixed The Prodigy, Basement Jaxx, Little Boots and more. His first huge hit “Cockney Thug” was played by everyone from Pete Tong and Switch to Diplo and Santigold. This year, he released his second full length album ‘Songs,’ featuring “Someone to Love,” while an EP collaboration with the hip hop pioneers Cypress, ‘Cypress x Rusko,’ is due out in June.

Deadmau5 bij BNN op NL 3

Je vindt een dode muis in je computer en vervolgens ben je een van de beste dj’s ter wereld. Het overkwam Joel Thomas Zimmerman, beter bekend als Deadmau5: de dj met een gigantische grijnzende muizenkop op zijn hoofd. Deadmau5 is een Canadese dj/producer en maker van progressive, electrohouse, trance en dupstep. Zijn shows vallen onder de meest innovatieve en populairste elektronische live acts van het moment. In de laatste show van de Meowingtons Hax tour in zijn hometown Toronto spint Deadmau5 zijn bekendste tracks en trakteert hij het publiek op ongelofelijke visuals. Bij BNN staat iedereen voor de tv te springen! 3 on Stage: Deadmau5 is zaterdagnacht 19 mei om 00.10 uur te zien bij BNN op 3.

Joel Zimmerman zelf vindt de benaming DJ nogal passé: ‘Ik gebruik geen cd’s. Als ik daar sta ontstaat er een technologische orgie van zoveel mogelijk eigen muziek. Als mensen naar Deadmau5 komen wil ik ook dat ze Deadmau5 horen.’ Zijn naam is gelijk aan zijn vroegere web ontwikkelings bureau, dat hij vernoemde naar een dode muis in zijn computer. De vijf voegde hij toe om gebruik te kunnen maken van online chat rooms, en met de naam kwam ook het masker.

Zimmerman schreef zijn eigen materiaal als hobby en zijn eerste release was voor de lol. Maar binnen de kortste keren knalde hij de hitlijsten binnen met de hitsingle Faxing Berlin en I Remember. Daarna verschenen For Lack of a Better Name en het album 4×4=12. In 2010 werd Deadmau5 door Beatport benoemd tot Best Electro House Artist en Best Progressive House Artist. In de Meowingtons Hax tour Toronto komen al zijn beste tracks aan bod in de laatste geweldige show met o.a. Reward is More Cheese and Sofi Needs a Ladder met Sofia Toufa.

Alexander Kowalski te gast op Rockit

In de aanloop naar de zomer strijkt ROCKIT nog éénmaal neer in de Westerunie. En voor deze laatste editie wordt er geknald met speciale gast Alexander Kowalski. Een muzikaal energieke avond ligt in het verschiet want naast Kowalski staan ook Dimitri Kneppers, Steve Rachmad en Tim Wolff op het programma.

Tim Wolff trapt deze ROCKIT editie in de Amsterdamse Westerunie af. Zijn frisse, rollende techno sound sluit naadloos aan op de stijl van Steve Rachmad, die het stokje daarna overneemt. Niet voor niks staan ze op Free Your Mind Festival back2back geprogrammeerd, een must voor de fijnproevers met een technohart.

Daarna is het de beurt aan Alexander Kowalski. Deze oudgediende heeft een behoorlijke staat van dienst en draait al sinds begin jaren negentig mee in de hogere gelederen van de Berlijnse Techno scene. Pompende techno met rijk gevulde melodielijnen maken stilstaan onmogelijk. Hetzelfde geldt voor de afsluiter van de avond, Dimitri Kneppers, wiens geschiedenis nog een tikkeltje verder terug gaat. Des te opmerkelijker dat hij nog steeds op eigenzinnige wijze grensverleggend weet te verrassen met zijn hi-tech sound.

Al met al een ROCKIT met artiesten die eigenlijk geen introductie behoeven. In de industriële sfeer van de Westerunie wordt dit een heerlijke, maar vooral energieke technoavond.

With the IMS now less than ten days away, the 2012 edition of the Ibiza International Music Summit has just added another huge guest to an already impressive line-up, with WILL.I.AM now confirmed for a keynote interview. Joining artists such as Nile Rodgers (CHIC), Diplo, Luciano, Carl Cox, Professor Green, Locodice and Paul Oakenfold, the Black Eyed Peas star will be yet another big draw to what´s set to be the most in-depth, star-studded summit yet.

A huge fan of dance music, Will added his own full DJ performances into the middle of his live performances with BEP, setting an example of the modern day pop star embracing electronic music principles, technology, sounds and culture. One of the key people behind www.dipdive.com, Will (alongside his good friend David Guetta – they first met at Pacha, Ibiza) is one of the major reasons why dance music is now the biggest it´s ever been in the global mainstream. Here is your chance to hear his personal journey to the present – and his plans for the future. Will will also DJ at the IMS event on May 24 with David Guetta at the World Heritage Site of Dalt Vila. But because hip-hop went in this other direction of gun-toting and drug-slinging, all the other stuff – entertainment, fun, the concept of music and hearing beats and inspirations and fusion and collaboration – they forgot that this is hip-hop. So I was like, hip-hop is dead. Fuck this shit, I’m going here.”

We can also now announce that the legendary Danny Tenaglia will be connecting live from NYC to Ibiza, with the DJ icon joining us via video link-up to discuss his recent decision to step back from the world of DJing. A hero to many, this will be another fascinating insight into the life of a DJ who´s experienced it all. He will be interviewed live from his Manhattan loft.

AND YET ANOTHER COUP. Producer legend and electronic pioneer Giorgio Moroder will also join the event in person. Moroder inspired so many of the first and second wave of dance music artists – here he comes to Ibiza to explain his history and where he goes to from here.

Solar Weekend en MEN_at_WORK dagen creatief Nederland uit om hét officiële Solar Weekend T-shirt te ontwerpen. De design-contest Solar Crea-Tee is inmiddels gestart en tot en met 27 mei kunnen zowel professionele designers als startende creatieven hun ‘CreaTeeviteit’ tonen.

Nederlands meest creatieve festival Solar Weekend en kledingketen MEN_at_WORK organiseren de designwedstrijd samen. Met Solar Crea-Tee dagen ze zowel professionele designers als startende creatieven uit om hét officiële Solar Weekend 2012 T-shirt te ontwerpen rondom het festivalthema van dit jaar: Rituelen. Het winnende ontwerp zal in productie worden genomen en natuurlijk verkocht worden in de winkels van MEN_at_WORK en op het festival op 3, 4 en 5 augustus. Squarepusher na 4 jaar terug in Melkweg

Op vrijdag 5 oktober staat de Britse electronicagrootheid Tom Jenkinson, beter bekend als Squarepusher, in de Melkweg met een eenmalig optreden in Nederland. Het optreden is onderdeel van een tour gekoppeld aan het nieuwe album ‘Ufabulum’, dat deze week verschijnt. De voorverkoop is vandaag gestart.

Squarepusher is al 16 jaar een begrip binnen de elektronica en brengt op het fameuze Britse label Warp inmiddels zijn twaalfde album uit. In zijn eeuwige zoektocht naar vernieuwing heeft hij ditmaal gekozen voor een meer electrofunk getinte plaat. Zoals altijd complex, maar ook toegankelijk en met de nodige humor. In de loop van het album uiteraard ook weer het snelle Squarepusher breakbeat- / electronicageluid met hier en daar zelfs een donker randje. Tickets voor het optreden gaan op maandag 14 mei in de voorverkoop.

Eénmaal eerder al was Squarepusher in de Melkweg te bewonderen. In 2008 trad hij voor een uitverkochte Max met een show die in het teken stond van de release van zijn destijds nieuwe album “Just a Souvenir”. Met een spectaculair optreden waar Squarepusher naast het aansturen van zijn machines ook live op het podium gitaarspeelde, was het een van de optredens waar men “bij-had-moeten-zijn”.

TFA Labelshowcase X 50Hurtz

Op vrijdag 1 juni een grote showcase van het Londense label TFA. Het label heeft een flink aantal dikke dubstepproducers onder haar naam en op deze voorzomerse nacht wordt dan ook behoorlijk uitgepakt. TFA is vooral ook bekend van hun Londense Chew The Fat clubnachten en de deze nacht is dan ook een showcase van het label en de clubnacht samen. De showcase wordt gehost door niemand minder dan de mannen van 50Hurtz, dus je weet alvast wat je kunt verwachten: Dubstep. Hard! De line-up is als volgt:

Allereerst High Rankin: deze lollige Brit weet met zijn pompende dubstep en uitbundige vertoning menig dansvloer te slopen. Dit alles niet al te serieus, want de Brit houdt wel van een lolletje. Op zijn Facebook pagina staat dan ook: “Fuck um if they can’t take a joke.” Waar High Rankin is, is feest en zijn krullende snor en keurige pak krijg je erbij kado.

KillSonik, het Britse duo dat voorheen bekend stond als Chasing Shadows, is met hun eerste remixes voor o.a. Nero en Damien Marley gelijk opgepikt door Skream, Pendulum en een hele vracht andere grote namen. Het is voor deze twee de allereerste keer dat zij onder de naam KillSonik in Nederland optreden. Verwacht keiharde partydubstep van het allervetste soort.

De Australiër Reso droomde er ooit van om drummer in een jazzband te worden. Dat dit net even anders heeft uitgepakt hoor je na ongeveer 5 seconden van zijn repertoire bestudeerd te hebben. Donkere, harde, zware producties en vooral clevere poducties die je blijven verrassen en meezuigen naar een wereld waar naast dubstep alles mogelijk is, van breaks tot techno.

Verder optredens Document One, Rednek en 50Hurtz resident TB6K. Dit is echter nog niet alles… In de Oude zaal is namelijk een speciale 50Hurtz talent room met hier de allervetste, talentvolste locals die er nog een tweede party bij gaan bouwen!

Bugged Out are part of the club’s opening weekend fiesta on Friday May 25th, with South London legends Basement Jaxx Djing alongside German house duo Booka Shade. Representing the UK, in the second room are Mosca and Joy Orbison with the Bugged Out summer resident Jackmaster.

Safehouse Management have just released new details about the lineup for Carl Cox’s The Revolution Recruits this summer at Space Ibiza.

After a whirlwind decade of Revolution parties at Space Ibiza, Safehouse Management plans to stamp all over the 2012 summer party season with another exciting mix of talent – featuring big name favourites, lots of new first-timers, its acclaimed resident DJ team and of course, Carl Cox, whose trademark stage presence is legendary. From the Opening Party on July 3rd to the Closing Bash on September 18th, the Revolution Recruits is guaranteed to push the envelope of excellence on the White Isle once again. Volledige line-up Amsterdam Bass Festival

Op 12 t/m 14 juli vindt in de Melkweg te Amsterdam de eerste editie plaats van het Amsterdam Bass Festival, het eerste meerdaagse festival van Nederland voor dubstep en aanverwante stijlen. De volledige line-up is inmiddels rond: onder andere Distance, OM Unit, Pinch, The Qemists, Tunnidge, J-Sweet en Eptic staan naast de eerder bevestigde namen Caspa, DOOM, Foreign Beggars, Ed Rush, Skism, Plastician en 501. De drie dagen zijn gekoppeld aan de vaste Melkweg concepten CABLE, HOAX en 50Hurtz, in samenwerking met drum & bass organisatie Major League, dubstepplatform Get Darker en dubsteplabel Never Say Die. Voorverkoop van passe-partouts en alle losse tickets begint aanstaande zaterdag.

Op donderdagavond barst het geweld lost met een show van de Britse dubstep/grime live-act Foreign Beggars. Aansluitend begint de eerste nacht van Amsterdam Bass Festival, die in het teken van “echte” dubstep en oergenres als grime en garage, gehost door de donderdagse clubnacht Cable. Met Dub Police-labelbaas Caspa en daarnaast namen als Plastician en grime-icoon J-Sweet is deze avond de perfecte start van het festival. Vrijdag begint met de avondshow van de gemaskerde rapper DOOM. Hierna volgt de clubnacht die gehost wordt door HOAX, de Melkweg-avond voor de meer vernieuwende, post-dubstep georiënteerde sounds. Dit met onder andere optredens van de energieke OM Unit en Pinch, de grote man achter het Tectonic label. The Max wordt tijdens deze nacht gehost door het Britse dubstepplatform Get Darker met onder anderen Distance en Tunnidge. Op zaterdagnacht is er ruimte voor de populaire, hardere dubstepsound van 50Hurtz, die hiervoor het Britse Never Say Die label hebben uitgenodigd. Met een keiharde lijst aan topnamen, waaronder Skism, Zomboy en 501 en daarnaast nog een speciale drum & bass zaal gehost door Major League wordt het gegarandeerd zweten geblazen!

Naast de muziekprogrammering bepaalt het Amsterdam Bass Festival deze dagen ook de programmering in de rest van het Melkweg-gebouw, zo is er in de Mediaroom een speciale expositie door Ali Mousavi & Vijf B.

Op zaterdag 12 mei gaan de tickets voor de clubnachten en een beperkt aantal passe-partouts (à € 40 + lidmaatschap) in de voorverkoop. Ticketverkoop voor de losse shows van DOOM en Foreign Beggars is eerder al van start gegaan, deze tickets zijn ook geldig voor het nachtprogramma.

Timetable Drift Festival 2012 bekend

Na 5 maanden keihard werken staat Drift in de startblokken voor een grandioze festival dag. De kaartverkoop loopt als een trein en op alle gebieden is er een tandje bovenop gedaan. Niets staat een mega succesvolle derde editie dan ook nog in de weg. Met nog drie dagen te gaan is het de hoogste tijd voor een laatste nieuwsupdate.

Muziek
Een grootse line up in een intieme setting dat is waar Drift voor staat. Industriële techno in de rauwe setting van de Vasim klinkt machinaal, puur en gaat door merg en been. Met Speedy J, O/V/R, ROD en bijzondere live acts in de vorm van Claro Intelecto en Brendon Moeller zal het lastig worden om naar de wc te gaan. In de buitentent is er kwaliteitshouse met Space Dimension Controller, San Soda en natuurlijk ede bijzondere afsluitende house set van Robert Hood. Hieronder alle tijden netjes voor je op een rij.

Drift Dicht
Drift biedt meer dan louter muziek en tracht een totaal beleving neer te zetten. Onder de noemer Drift Dicht wordt er een prikkelend cultureel programma verzorgd waarbij participeren en ervaren hand in hand gaan. Last van geestdrift, een jeukende portemonnee of behoefte aan rijmelarij? Wend je dan tot de Cultuurbazaar, debekencaravan of een van de andere creatieve initiatieven.

100% overkapping
Cultureel erfgoed “De Vasim” biedt de ideale inspirerende ambiance en met twee volmaakte area’s houden we het intiem. Om het zekere van het onzekere te nemen is er gezorgd voor 100% overkapping. Weer of geen weer. Broeien wordt het dus sowieso.

Eten, pinnen, kluisjes en meer
Culinair gezien kunnen de smaakpupillen danig worden beproefd. Eetcafé “De Plak” heeft een uitgebreid assortiment aan biologische lekkernijen samengesteld. Natuurlijk zijn er kluisjes, kan er worden gepind en zijn er ook sigaretten (beperkt) verkrijgbaar.

Nachtdrift
Na het festival gaat het feest tot 6 uur in den morgen door in Doornroosje. In de grote zaal krijgen de mannen van ESHU de hele avond ‘carte blanche’. Als gast hebben zij Jeroen Search uitgenodigd voor een dikke compromisloze live set. In de kleine zaal wordt het Belgisch Exotisch genieten met de warme dynamische klanken van Collectief De Ruijter. De Deventerse Ronnie Baxter verzorgd een stijlvolle opening.

De ticket verkoop loopt hard en het wordt dus weer een volle bak. De laatste kaarten zijn nu verkrijgbaar op www.driftfestival.nl. Er wordt een beperkt aantal kaarten achtergehouden aan de deur.

Electric Zoo Phase 2 Artist Line-up

Made Event is proud to announce the Phase 2 lineup for Electric Zoo 2012, adding more artists to the three-day festival headlined by David Guetta on Friday, Axwell on Saturday and Tiësto on Sunday. Electric Zoo: New York’s Electronic Music Festival takes place over Labor Day Weekend on August 31, September 1 and September 2 at Randall’s Island Park, NYC. With the world’s best electronic DJs and live acts gathering once again to play the freshest beats and hottest summer jams, Electric Zoo continues to be New York’s music event of the year.

“[Electric Zoo] is an awesome festival in one of the most incredible settings in the world,” Tiësto recently told MTV. “How often do you get to play with the Manhattan skyline as a backdrop? It is a special experience, being in the middle of a city with such a huge, energetic crowd. If you’d told me this would be possible 10 years ago, I wouldn’t have believed you.”

This year’s Electric Zoo also features Above & Beyond’s Group Therapy Hilltop Arena, the Riverside Fool’s Gold Clubhouse, and Sunday School Grove Vagabundos takeover on Friday, while Dim Mak hosts the Riverside stage on Saturday.

“This year, I have my own curated Dim Mak stage at Electric Zoo,” Steve Aoki says. “This is important because EZ represents the New York dance scene and community and it is one of the best communities in America. I’m extremely excited about this. There is nothing like playing to a New York EDM crowd. They are amazing!”

Future Disco Ibiza Summer 2012

Future Disco reaffirm their status as one of the leading players in contemporary house and disco as they return to Space Ibiza for a residency on the Sunset Terrace in 2012…

After a hugely-successful stint at Space Ibiza in 2011, Future Disco have been given the honour of hosting the Sunset Terrace each week in 2012, with the residency running every Tuesday from the 3rd July till the 11th of September.

During this summer’s residency, Future Disco will be once again working alongside Carl Cox’s Revolution night, one of the biggest and most loved parties on the White Isle.

With this being their third year at Space, Future Disco are perfectly placed to take charge of the only open air section of the club, The Sunset Terrace, and deliver a flawless sundown party where the music and vibe will be reminiscent of the magical old Space Terrace.

Future Disco will ensure the party is an extra-special experience, transforming the terrace into a wondrous disco garden, complete a range of beautiful plants giving it a tropical-urban-neon feel (try saying that after a couple of cocktails…)

The Future Disco party starts at Sands in Playa D’en Bossa from 3pm every Tuesday, and each week a very special handpicked guest will join resident Sean Brosnan, then onto Space at 8pm where the party runs through until Midnight.

A wealth of the freshest talent playing the most sublime sounds including Maxxi Soundsystem who has recently released on Futureboogie, Needwant and Hot Waves amongst others, Life & Death’s Clockwork, Tiger and Woods play live, Get Physical’s DJ T from Berlin and many other exciting names guesting each week. The opening party features the debut Ibiza perfromance of John Talabot who’s recent album ‘Fin’ is already looking like a contender for electronic album of the year.

Sands continues to shine with its vanguard spirit and increased programming for summer 2012. Sands boasts flawless views of the sea, sprawling beach front garden and lounge beds. It will also be unveiling a promising Ibiza culinary concept with different chefs invited to curate the menus each week – including those from various Michelin Star restaurants.

Finally, everyone at the Future Disco party is entitled entry to Carl Cox’s Revolution after midnight, where clubbers can expect to see the most renowned DJs on the planet until 6am.

Overall its set to be another incredible summer at Space, Ibiza… Be part of the exciting new chapter in the Future Disco story.
