Ask a true house lover what the birthplace of house is and the answer will be: Chicago. This city was home to the first record shops that sold electronic music on vinyl and to disc jockeys playing disco edits – all night long. During the mid and late 1980’s a new music genre developed that influenced DJ’s around the world for decades to come. A creative outburst of house music in which a young Derrick Carter started playing his first records as a disc jockey. Chicago during this time was a place where different music genres blended together perfectly, therefore a night filled with house, disco and acid tracks was the way to get the crowd in motion.

On the 26th of December Derrick Carter is planning to recreate this feeling by taking us on a journey through the history of house music. By bringing his birthplace – Chicago – to Amsterdam, Studio 80’s main room will be filled with sounds from the 1980’s leading all the way to up to the sounds of the present.

Although no further introduction is needed for a man with his legendary – but underground – status there are a couple of things that can be said about Derrick Carter. Having released his first record “love me right” in 1987, his experience and knowledge within the electronic music scene now spans almost 3 decades. During these 26 years as an active DJ he proved himself to be a true music lover, who prefers to stay underground. Or as he likes to put it: “I like to keep myself pretty invisible. You may think I’m somewhere, but I’ve already left”. What he often leaves behind is a crowd that enjoyed jazzy atmospheres and golden disco vibes combined with raw acid tracks and dark techno. Further Derrick Carter’s knowledge on music doesn’t only originate from being a DJ, he is also a gifted producer, deeply admired by anyone who gets in touch with his unique sound.

Therefore all Chicago house enthusiasts, acid freaks, disco diehards and above all Derrick Carter lovers ought to be present the 26th of December to experience the golden days once more and to make history of our own at Studio 80. Dancing on the finest grooves throughout music history, this will be a journey no one will ever forget!
