BassRepublic Press Release 2018 BassRepublic: new festival concept in Mannheim Germany to see new festival for electronic bass music in the Maimarkthalle on 29 September – top-notch acts delivering different styles on 2 floors.

Fast beats, driving rhythms, complex bass lines – that’s what festival visitors can look forward to at BassRepublic in Mannheim. The bass-charged sounds of electronic music will feature such styles as drum’n’bass, trap and dubstep, to name but a few. BassRepublic is being staged for the first time this year. Scene superstars lining up will include Chase & Status, Ghastly and DJ Hype. All in all, there will be nearly 20 acts on the two stages. The promoters are expecting up to 5,000 visitors.

The makers of NATURE ONE and MAYDAY are cranking up the bass: on 29 September (8pm-6am) Maimarkthalle visitors will become witness to a ground-breaking festival concept, the likes of which have never been seen in Germany before. At BassRepublic the spotlight will be on musical styles which have otherwise tended to be sidelined at larger electro festivals in this country: bass music, drum’n’bass, trap, dubstep and future bass.

“What started 30 years ago with breakbeats, jungle and drum’n’bass is now split into a multitude of subgenres,” says Oliver Vordemvenne of event organiser I-Motion. “And even if it sounds like it for untrained ears, this music is anything but a bass- heavy mishmash. What is typical, though, are fast and asynchronous rhythms powering at as much as 180 bpm.”

So why Mannheim? “Mannheim was already a breakbeat bastion way back in the 90s,” explains Vordemvenne. “It was here that the Milk! was born – the first club in Germany to specialise in breakbeats and later in drum’n’bass. The scene spread from Mannheim to Frankfurt and soon saw the fans getting together in the clubs in the south-west. The parties were legendary,” he reminisces and adds: “With BassRepublic we’ll be bringing the tradition back to the region. The Mannheim drum’n’bass pioneer ‘Bassface Sascha’, the former resident DJ in the Milk!, will be in the line-up on 29 September too – so we’ll have come full circle.”

The line-up is representative for the scene – a scene which has long since ceased to exist in just the underground. Young and fresh artists such as “Ghastly” from the USA are currently pushing the genre limits and winning ever more fans. Acts like “Chase & Status” are superstars who play at festivals such as Coachella and Lollapalooza. Having notched up three number 1 hits in the UK dance charts and with over 1 million followers in the social media, these Brits are among the most successful artists in the scene. Also appearing will be London-based “DJ Hype”, who has had a seminal influence on the international drum’n’bass scene since its beginnings in the 80s.

But German acts will also be standing at the decks at BassRepublic: “ESKEI83”, 8-times Red Bull DJ Battle winner from Dresden and also the DJs “Flobu” and “Sekula” – known from the “Bootshaus” in Cologne.
The promoters are expecting up to 5,000 visitors. In cooperation with the VRN (Rhine-Neckar public transport association), there will be free and safe transport to and from the venue.
