The largest German festival for harder electronic music will be celebrating its 12th edition on 6 October, with up to 20,000 fans expected to converge on Dortmund’s Westfalenhallen. Over 35 international DJs and live acts will be at the decks of the three floors, including such international stars of the scene as Angerfist, Radical Redemption, Miss K8, Partyraiser and Destructive Tendencies.

“Welcome to Westfalenhell” – is how up to 20,000 visitors will be greeted for the 12th time on 6 October. With the Westfalenhallen reverberating to the sounds of hardcore, hardstyle and hardtechno from 8pm to 6am, the fans have come to regard the largest German festival for the harder types of electronic music as the “hardest night of the year”. “What punk rock is for rock’n’roll, the harder styles are for electronic music: loud, fearless, unconventional,” says Oliver Vordemvenne of promoter I-Motion. “It may be a musical niche, but it’s got a lot of devotees. The atmosphere at SYNDICATE is peaceful, warm-hearted and fun-loving – even if some of the fans’ sombre outfits and bizarre masks might suggest something else. They are a closely-knit community and partying together is what it’s all about for them,” Vordemvenne adds.

The line-up is promising: 35 international DJs and live acts will be standing at the decks of the three floors. The largest floor is in the “Arena” (Westfalenhalle 1), where “Masters of Hardcore”, the leading hardcore label worldwide, are set to present the most celebrated stars of the scene. Over one million “Angerfist” Facebook fans really does speak for itself. This Dutch DJ has been filling event halls by himself with crowds of up to 10,000 for years now. With “Dogfight” there will also be some of the hottest hardcore artists of the time joining forces on stage. The live act is a project of DJ Mad Dog’s label of the same name. He’ll be supported by “AniMe”, “Noize Suppressor” and “Unexist”.

DJ heavyweights such as “Public Enemies” and “E-Force” will be playing in the “Hardstyle Kingdom”. With “Radical Redemption” there will be an artist doing a live act at the decks who made it as the highest-placed hardstyle act to number 44 of the Top100 of the largest scene magazine “DJ Mag”. The “Rough Zone” is given over in its entirety to the genre hardtechno, with hard basses delivered by the likes of “Agents of Change” and “BMG”.

“Hard electronic music means that it’s not just the sheer volume that matters but above all the quality of the sound systems and getting the levels and the balance right,” says Oliver Vordemvenne. “On top of the music, elaborate stage sets and spectacular effects with lights, lasers, LEDs and pyrotechnics are all part of SYNDICATE as well.”

The festival is organised by I-Motion and Art of Dance (Holland). The admission ticket, which at the same time is a ticket for travel within the VRR (Rhine-Ruhr Public Transport Association) fare zone, can be used for free transport to and from the venue.
