First condoms, then free tattoos, now skating while raving in Amsterdam. At El Tony Mate’s invite-only Selected Session on 10th September, a selected crowd enjoyed a set by world-renowned DJ Seth Troxler at Amsterdam’s iconic Skatecafe. The venue’s built-in skate ramp became part of the experience, with skaters showing their tricks before ravers took over the ramp to get closer to the stage. Seth Troxler even signed some skateboards! Now, after El Tony’s Europe-wide Selected Sessions, the event is available for everyone to stream on YouTube.
Detroit-raised house and techno DJ Seth Troxler is one of the world’s top names in electronic music. He has played at major festivals and venues around the world, including Coachella, Sónar, Burning Man, Movement and fabric London. Beyond music, he is also involved in art and gastronomy. In support were Dutch DJs Emvae & Moxes, a rising duo known for their high energy B2B sets of house, disco, soul, garage, minimal house, and moombahton (Dutch house flavour of Reggaeton).
“Skatecafe was the perfect setting for this Selected Session – raw, energetic and full of character,” says El Tony Mate Culture Specialist Ellen Fölmli. “Seeing skaters on the ramp while the crowd was dancing around them created such a unique energy. El Tony Mate, as the natural energy boost, fits perfectly into moments like these. And having Seth Troxler, who genuinely enjoys El Tony Mate, behind the decks made the night feel even more authentic.”
At each El Tony Mate Selected Session, a small audience gets to see a globally renowned headliner (e.g. Jen Cardini, Young Marco, DJ Tennis, Bambounou, Sofia Kourtesis, EDE…) in unexpected spaces across El Tony Mate’s core European markets, including the Netherlands, Austria, France and Switzerland. El Tony Mate also puts a strong focus on supporting and spotlighting the local music scene. For each Selected Session, local artists join the line-up and are featured through Local Hero pre-shoots, where El Tony Mate introduces the artists and gives the audience a closer look into their story, their music and their personal connection to the city.
