Following a bold debut this summer that brought The Cure, Gorillaz and Moby to one of Europe’s most historic cities, PHILLGOOD has announced The Chemical Brothers as the second headliner of its 2027 edition.

The British duo, whose live show has become one of the most powerful audiovisual experiences in music, return to Bulgaria to close the festival’s second night on 17 July 2027. Between 16-18 July at the Rowing Canal in Plovdiv, Robbie Williams and the undisputed pioneers of electronic music are set to bring unforgettable moments to the stage. The third headliner and more leading international names are still to be announced.

The Chemical Brothers are a rare phenomenon in electronic music. Formed by Ed Simons and Tom Rowlands in Manchester in the early 1990s, they took big beat out of the clubs and into the heart of pop culture. As their records stormed the charts and their live shows grew into events of their own, they built an entire world around their music – a psychedelic rabbit hole of dazzling visuals and sound powerful enough to lift a crowd off the ground.

Their catalogue has soundtracked generations of fans with the likes of “Hey Boy Hey Girl”, “Block Rockin’ Beats”, “Galvanize”, “Wide Open”, “Got to Keep On”, “Go”, “Swoon”, “Star Guitar” and so many more. In close to 35 years, the duo have collected multiple Grammy and BRIT Awards, sold more than 21 million physical records worldwide, including six UK number-one albums, and racked up billions of streams. Their latest studio album, For That Beautiful Feeling, was met with critical acclaim, with reviews calling them “electronic titans, as future-focused as ever” and noting that “after almost 30 years, there is still no one like them”.

At PHILLGOOD, The Chemical Brothers will bring their full show to the banks of the Rowing Canal, with their most iconic tracks and the visual world they are celebrated for around the globe.

PHILLGOOD made its debut in July 2026 with an ambitious three-day programme bringing together more than 35 artists. The Cure, Gorillaz and Moby led the inaugural bill, joined by an impressive line-up spanning Kneecap, Wolf Alice, Suede, Sleaford Mods, Thievery Corporation, Daniel Avery, HAAi, Acid Arab, Kelly Lee Owens and more. The result brought thousands of music fans to Plovdiv, with more than a quarter of the festival audience travelling from outside Bulgaria. Alongside the sister festival Hills of Rock, the events by promoter Fest Team attracted more than 60,000 visitors to Plovdiv across two weeks of live music.

For UK festival-goers looking beyond the established European circuit in 2027, the setting is a major part of PHILLGOOD’s appeal. Widely recognised as the oldest continuously inhabited city in Europe, Plovdiv’s history stretches back thousands of years, with layers of Thracian, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman heritage woven into the modern city. A trip to Plovdiv today combines ancient architecture with a thriving contemporary arts, food and nightlife scene.

At its heart is the spectacular Ancient Theatre of Philippopolis, one of the best-preserved ancient theatres in the world and a working open-air venue for music, opera and performance. Built in the first century AD, the theatre has become one of the city’s defining cultural landmarks. That relationship between music, culture and thousands of years of history makes PHILLGOOD stand apart from other European festivals, whilst offering the opportunity to discover a relatively under-explored city-break destination.

About today’s headliner announcement, Stefan Elenkov, CEO of Fest Team, said: “We want PHILLGOOD to bring the scale of Europe’s major festivals to Plovdiv. We saw it happen with the first edition, and now, with Robbie Williams and The Chemical Brothers on one stage in one weekend, we’re showing how far we can go together with an audience that believed in us before we had announced a single name. And the 2027 line-up is only just taking shape.”

Tickets are available as three-day passes from €199 and day tickets for the opening night from €99. Day tickets for the second night go on sale today.

PHILLGOOD 2027 takes place from 16-18 July 2027 at the Rowing Canal, Plovdiv, Bulgaria. More info and tickets available here: phillgood.ink.
